The aims and objectives of the Pakistan Muscular Dystrophy Support Meetup Group are as follows:

1. Bring together muscular dystrophy patients, not necessarily limited to those in Pakistan alone, on a single platform in order to create an advocacy group that can demand and ensure acceptance, provision of privileges and a level playing field in society

2. To create an md patient self-help group that can learn from shared experiences and resources

3. To inform these patients about their respective diagnoses and all the possible therapeutic, adaptive and rehabilitative strategies and resources available both locally as well as internationally

4. To facilitate rapid exchange of information between the west and Pakistan

5. To keep md patients in touch with the latest research and innovative therapies originating in the west

    Please call me at at home at least two days before the meeting to confirm b/w 7 - 9 pm. Email me if you need the number. Even if you have rsvp'd, reconfirmation by phone would be required to avoid confusion and inconvenience.

Who attended?

    • “ This was an unexpectedly successful meetup as everyone of the meetup members with md in Karachi showed up and exactly on time. People had a lot to talk about and the meeting lasted two hours and could have gone on longer judging by the interest but we had to keep the length reasonable. Attendees were Dr. Zia and son Nabeel with their whole family, Syem, Adnan with friend Raheel, Mr.Mohsin (brother of a 10 year old with dmd) and Mr.Shamael and me, of course. I gave a small intro in the beginning basically explaining the need and importance of such support groups. Subsequently, everyone introduced themselves describing their experience with the md and the trials and tribulations associated. These took a longer jan expected part of the meetup and Dr.Zia had an engaging and unusual story that generated much conversation. Right before the conclusion, we had a short open discussion about the problems and genetics of md. Thank you all for attending and making it on time. ”
